Overview
Larsen & Toubro has been at the forefront of building a strong and self-reliant India for over 80 years. Leveraging its precision and systems engineering capabilities, L&T entered various strategic sectors, such as power, aerospace, and defence well ahead of the opening up of these sectors for private industry participation, which began with Defence in 2001 and Space in 2020.
During the preceding one and a half decades, L&T was associated with the Defence Research & Development Organisation (DRDO) for design and development of a host of systems and equipment for the Indian Armed Forces. Concurrently, L&T has also contributed towards the Indian Navy’s ‘A Builders Navy’ aspiration by developing platform-specific equipment and systems across classes of Naval platforms with in-country value addition. With proven capabilities in multi-disciplinary engineering and programme management, and driven by a customer-centric approach, L&T has been a long-standing and reliable Industry partner to the Indian Army and the Indian Air Force for concept-to-delivery solutions across a spectrum of Artillery Systems, Air Defence Systems, Armoured Vehicles and Combat Engineering Systems.
In the Space sector, the business has been a trusted partner to ISRO across every segment of its activities with wide-ranging hardware for Space Launch Vehicles and Satellites, test facilities, material independence, Satcom infrastructure, and Deep Space Communication Network.
Over the years, we have grown from strength to strength and earned recognition in the aerospace and defence segments, as L&T Defence. Reflecting the Company’s vision to pursue opportunities in emerging deep tech sectors like precision manufacturing, advanced electronics systems, AI, additive manufacturing, autonomous platforms, and digital technologies, including Industry 4.0 in Defence and other industries, the business has been renamed L&T Precision Engineering and Systems.
Having built a portfolio of products, systems, platforms, and solutions, and correspondingly a basket of technologies, L&T PES provides customised concept-to-design-to-delivery solutions across chosen strategic segments with a focus on indigenous design and emphasis on creating Indian Intellectual Property (IP).
